I’m always looking for ways to make money as a stay at home parent. The ridiculously – higher than I want it to be – car payment makes sure of that.
Even without the car payment, it seems there’s always some out of nowhere expense that comes up, and I’m pinchin’ pennies to pay for it.
You’ve heard of that saying, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”?
It’s true, and this girl’s got the will and wants to share the “way” with you.
12 Ways To Make Money As A Stay At Home Parent
1. Sell Crafts On Etsy Or Facebook
Get in touch with your creative side and make some extra money doing so.
I have an obsession with painting and distressing mason jars. These can easily be sold individually or in groups by creating a shop on Etsy (if you’re super serious about it) or through Facebook Online Buy and Sell groups local to you.
It doesn’t have to be Mason Jars though, here are a few more ideas:
- Welcome Signs
- House Number Signs
- Pallet Plaques
- Painted Coffee Cups
- String Art
- Tin Can Utensil Bins
- Custom Artwork
*Tip – Utilize holidays to personalize and customize like Mother’s Day, 4th of July, etc.. You’ll make more money in doing so.
2. Sell To Decluttr
Do you have old books, games or various other electronics laying around the house collecting dust? If so, consider selling them to Decluttr!
It’s super easy to do, and you’ll even get paid the next day.
3. Complete Surveys
C’mon don’t roll your eyes, doing surveys online in your spare time can be a really simple way to earn a few extra bucks each month.
I’m not one of those bloggers who will tell you you’re going to make a living off of them because you won’t, but you could make enough to matter.
4. Clean Houses
Not my fav, considering I don’t even like to clean my own, but it is a way to make money as a stay at home parent.
I actually have a few friends who have turned cleaning homes into a real business with employees and the whole 9!
My grandparents have someone come in once a week and pay her 10$ an hour. Having a few homes at that rate could bring you in $100+ a week.

5. Flip Yardsale and Flea Market Items
The folks over at Flea Market Flipper made over $9,000 in February from doing this!
Can you imagine?
That’s a pretty hefty income; I’d be happy with a fraction of that.
6. Sell Firewood
Consider selling firewood if you’re sitting on a decent plot of wooded land.
A lot of people will gladly pay for already cut up firewood vs. having to do it themselves.
My mother-in-law babysat for years to supplement income while she was a stay-at-home mom.
It may make sense for you too if you love kiddos. 🙂
8. Start A Blog
I love this one!
The earning potential for bloggers is limitless. I know bloggers who make anywhere from $500-$130,000+ a month.
It’s not just about the money though; it’s about the connection.
As a stay-at-home mom, it’s easy to lose touch with who you are when most of your time is consumed with taking care of others. It’s pretty easy to become a social introvert too. I’m totally guilty of not making eye contact in the grocery store to avoid having to talk with someone, but blogging keeps me in touch with myself. It also keeps me connected with others.
That’s why I love it.
* Did you know I started blogging without knowing anything about it? I know it sounds crazy, but I had no technical experience or formal education at all before diving in. I’m sure glad I did though and would be happy to show you how to get started!
9. Take Photographs
If you have an eye for it, try offering up family photos for a fee!
You can earn extra money by contributing to big stock sites or creating your own website and offering up a membership.
10. Mow Lawns
I write this as my husband is outside cutting the grass. lol
It’s seriously a way to earn some extra cash, though!
11. Write an E-Book
Create a how-to book and sell it on Amazon or privately on your own website as a way to make extra money.
It could be anything from “How To Make Your Own Curtains” to “Organization 101”!
If you’re excellent at something, why not share?
12. Teach A Course Online
E-book, not your thing?
How about teaching through a video to make money as a stay at home parent?
Are you superb at Excel or Powerpoint, or teaching English as a Second Language? If so, put it to good use on a site like Udemy to bring in the cash.
I know I’m barely scraping the surface with ways to make money as a stay at home parent, but it’s a start! Can you think of other ways? Share them in the comments. 🙂
